The 8A series is a very special one: not only because it bears the signature of Adriana Ochoa, who now wields the oenological baton at Bodegas Ochoa, or even because they were the brain child of one of the country’s most renowned oenologists, awarded Newcomer of the Year in 2014.
The magic of this series lies in what is behind it, the meaning and the underlying concept. The 8A series brings together three generations. It is a tribute to an entire winemaking family.
This is what gives the series its name, which, like everything else at Bodegas Ochoa, is a tribute to tradition, but heavily laced with innovation.
Adriana explains that “My grandfather’s emblem was 8A. My father taught me to appreciate varietals and I have produced these wines using the latest cutting-edge techniques, while trying, in a different way with each of these wines to convey our philosophy and our love of the land and of wine”.
8A Origen is Adriana’s response to the goal of producing a wine from three different varieties of grape grown on three estates with a common feature: the soil, which is a wonderful scree. The name ORIGEN, (origin in English) comes from the fact that this wine originates from grapes selected according to the type of soil in which they grow.
The character of 8A Origen is defined by its minerality and fruitiness.
It is aged in 225L French and American oak casks for a full 14 months to produce a fresh, fruity red with a well-integrated woodiness.
To the eye: Ruby red, with a medium-high robe.
On the nose: Predominating aromas of ripe fruits, led by blackberries and liqueur cherries. Also has some floral and liquorice notes. It is a mineral wine characterised by its ORIGEN (origin) in the soil of the vineyard.
In the mouth: Here we find the same aromas as in the nose (ripe fruit, blackberries, cherries, flowers and liquorice). Strong in structure, with silky tannins; frank in attack and intensely fruited. A potent wine which we recommend for drinking with a meal. It has a long aftertaste with light mineral touches.
Recommended serving temperature: 16ºC-18ºC.
