This is our main black grape variety and the one most often used in our quality- improvement experiments.

It is a fine, highly aromatic black grape.

As its Spanish name (temprano means early) suggests, it is a quick-ripening variety.

It grows in medium-to-large sized compact clusters.

The grapes are medium-sized, round and blue-black in colour.

The wines from this varietal are an intense ruby-red, well-balanced and with a smooth aroma of liquorice, strawberries and forest fruits.

Santa Cruz and El Secadero

The Santa Cruz estate produces the tempranillo grapes for our Ochoa Tempranillo Crianza and for the younger Ochoa Calendas.

The El Secadero estate in Traibuenas is used to grow the grapes for our Reservas and Gran Reservas.
