This is the 25th edition in the contest, with a judge panel formed of the Official Tasting Panel and the Wine Guild. They have decided to award Ochoa Reserva 2009 as Best Red Reserva competing with other Reserva and Gran Reserva wines of the region.

The wine awards ceremony took place last april 15th in the “Colegio Oficial de Medicos de Navarra”. More than 100 wines from the Navarra DO were presented in the contest, from which there were 8 awarded wines.

In the whites category the awarded were Inurrieta Orchidea & Pago de Cirsus Chardonnay. Malon de Echaide was awarded in the rose category and in the reds category were awarded Señorio de Unx, Merak Vega del Castillo, Marco Real Crianza Colección Privada and in sweet wines Moscatel Pago de Cirsus.

Ochoa Reserva 2009 was the winner of the night in the Reserva & Gran Reserva of red wines. Last year, the same wine, vintage 2008 was also awarded in this category. This wine is made from Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties from 3 different parcels of the Ochoa owned vineyards. It is aged in oak barrels for 18 months and then aged in bottle until it is ready to be released. It is a matured wine, elegant and smooth.

In this occasion Javier Roncal, sales representative of Bodegas Ochoa took the award and highlighted that “Our Ochoa Reserva 2009 is a winner. And excellent wine in its quality and in the value that it gives to the consumer. Once consumers try it, it goes into the “favorites” category for those moments where you want a special wine”.
