Triple Gold medal for Bodegas Ochoa in Tempranillos al Mundo 2016: Ochoa Tempranillo Crianza 2012, Ochoa Reserva 2010 and Serie 8A Origen 2012

The XI edition of the International contest Tempranillos al Mundo has taken place in Ourense (Spain), the most important contest where the grape variety is the main characteristic.

The contest is organized by FEAE (Federation de Asociaciones de Enologos) and this edition together with Asociacion Gallega de Enologos and has the support of the International Union of Winemakers and of the Magrama (Spanish Agriculture Government division) and supervised by the OIV.

The judge panel is of the highest level, 50% are winemakers and the other 50% are professionals in the wine sector, Spanish and international.

In this contest, Bodegas Ochoa was competing with 3 wines and has got 3 gold medals. This is a very happy moment that pushes us to continue working hard every day, declares Beatriz Ochoa, general manager of the winery.

Her sister Adriana Ochoa, winemaker of the winery says: These 3 big awards mean a lot to us because our personal bet in black grape varieties is TEMPRANILLO. Our Ochoa Tempranillo Crianza is born in the vineyard Santa Cruz in Traibuenas, at the moment in transition to organic. We look after this parcel very closely and this Gold Medal is a good recognition after all the work and hours dedicated to this vineyard. Although our best award is to see this wine updated in the market and to see it finds a space in our customers tables and cellars and for those bars and restaurants that choose it.

Javier Ochoa, on his side says that Ochoa Reserva is made from the best grapes from our vineyard, that are reserved to make this classic but timeless wine, that continues giving us many happy moments. It is made of Tempranillo grapes in a 55% and aged in american oak barrels, and blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon aged in french oak.

Serie 8A Origen is a personal bet of Adriana who believed that combining 3 grape varieties with the same type of soil (calcareous clay) would give a very interesting result. And this is how this wine was born, with 70% of Tempranillo, blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Adriana thinks that this wine aged in new french and american oak barrels for 15 months shows an intense fruit character, complex aromas, where we can feel the terroir where it comes from.

Bodegas Ochoa is one of the best represented wineries of Navarra and one of the most awarded wineries in international contests with different wines. However, the family character and the feet on earth and hands on the terroir philosophy mark the quality standards that, sometimes come back in the shape of Gold Medals.
