LA CAÑADA DE TRAIBUENAS VINEYARD
Garnacha
This plot follows the path of the historic Cañada Real, traditionally used by herds from the north of Navarra descending towards Las Bardenas desert in autumn. This transhumance route acts as an ecological corridor, hosting native species such as kermes oak, rosemary, thyme, blackthorn, and juniper. It serves as a refuge for mammals like deer, wild boar, hares, and badgers, and for birds like thrushes, song thrushes, and partridges. Among the many insects, dragonflies stand out. All these species coexist in perfect balance, fostering biodiversity, migration, and the connection between flora and fauna. The area is ideal for setting up beehives to produce our own honey. Bees also promote the pollination of the olive trees found in Traibuenas.
The vineyard is perfectly integrated into this ecosystem. The vines are grafted with a collection of ancestral Garnacha clones from Navarra from which Ochoa has selected around 200 different individuals. Managing this clonal diversity is challenging, but the wines born from this place are incredibly interesting and full of nuances.
The soil is heterogeneous, with very stony areas alternating with more fertile and poorer zones. One of our main concerns is soil preservation, so we’ve planted different types of cover crops to combat erosion.

LA PEDRERA ESTATE
GRACIANO
La Pedrera Estate is bordered to the north and west by low shrubs and a ravine inhabited by species such as wild boars, roe deer, Bonelli's eagles, and herons.
The top layer of soil in this parcel consists of pebbles from an ancient riverbed. Beneath it lies a deep, fertile, sandy loam soil that facilitates water drainage and root respiration. The stony surface layer helps retain enough moisture and temperature for the optimal growth of a variety like Graciano, which is particularly sensitive to the arid summer conditions. ALTOS DE TRAIBUENAS ESTATE
MOSCATEL DE GRANO MENUDO
This vineyard includes the final stretch of the Cañada Real and, to the north, a high area with Mediterranean flora and fauna. This vineyard includes the final stretch of the Cañada Real at its lower end, while at the northern upper part, there is Mediterranean scrubland with typical flora and fauna. Its views captivated Javier Ochoa in the early 1990s and it became the chosen site for planting the first Moscatel vines that would produce the renowned Moscatel de Ochoa.
With rather poor soils, its orientation and slope are perfect for the optimal ripening of our Moscatel grapes. The wind helps maintain healthy grapes that can overripen to create one of our most iconic wines: MOSCATEL DE VENDIMIA TARDÍA. The vines in this estate are the first to bud at Ochoa and also the first to be harvested aiming for freshness in the production of MOSCATO DE OCHOA. In November the last grapes, already raisined, are harvested for our sweet wine. In a middle area, with a profile between the freshness and citrus character of Moscato and the more concentrated and tropical fruit of Vendimia Tardía, lie the vines destined for the production of OXOA, our dry Muscat wine.
The slope requires special care, using cover crops to prevent erosion and closely monitoring its behavior to always preserve the vineyard’s balance.

SANTA CRUZ DE TRAIBUENAS ESTATE
TEMPRANILLO
Santa Cruz is characterized by a certain slope and the clear influence of the Cidacos river. The humidity of the river allows the Tempranillo grapes to fill with aromas and pigments that make them very special. In the central area we have flowering strips that help us to maintain biodiversity.
This estate was the first to adopt organic viticulture practices and has been worked with different cover crops for over 20 years. It represents, like no other, our philosophy of vineyard care, our curiosity, and our greed for experimentation and knowledge. It is the pioneer of many practices later implemented in other vineyards.

LA MILLA ESTATE
MERLOT, VIOGNIER, CHARDONNAY Y VIURA
This vineyard, one mile long, has a great variety of soils that allow the cultivation of different red and white grape varieties. The soil is more fertile and fresh compared to other vineyards making it more suitable for white varieties.
The goal in this plot has been to integrate the vineyard into the ecosystem as much as possible by cultivating olive trees and planting flowering strips that increase biodiversity.

SECADERO ESTATE
TEMPRANILLO
The soils here are deep, poor and structured with a lot of stones. The vine roots extend several meters in search of water and nutrients achieving perfect harmony with their environment. This allows the production of a unique Tempranillo. The stony soil creates a special microclimate as the stones store heat during the day and release it at night.
Wine exclusively produced from this estate: ALMA FINCA SECADERO. This wine is a tribute to our mother, Mariví Alemán, the soul of the winery, who, like the roots of this vineyard, has done great, often unseen work, to make Ochoa what it is today.

FINCA MONTIJO
MERLOT
Montijo is the oldest estate of Ochoa. The soils are deep with good drainage and balance. Its location on a slope facilitates the aeration of the vines, which is very positive for their health. The estate has more clay and iron than others located in Traibuenas.
The clones brought from Bordeaux, which have very low yields, along with the family's perseverance to understand these varieties and achieve their adaptation, are the source of high-quality grapes and wines with great aging potential.
Wines that are born exclusively from this vineyard: CORAZÓN FINCA MONTIJO. This wine is a tribute to our father, Javier Ochoa, the heart of the winery, and a homage to the care and love he has poured specially in this vineyard.
